Lesson 62 | Asking for Favors and Suggestions

文型一：　VERB／いADJECTIVE／なADJECTIVEだな／NOUNだな《普通形》　んですが、～

Note:

• It is used to introduce a topic. It is followed by a request, an invitation or an expression seeking permission.

文型二：　 VERB《て形》　いただけませんか　「Would you do me the favor of ~ing?」

Note:

• This is a request that is politer than ～てください.

例：
お茶を習いたいんですが、いい先生を紹介していただけませんか。　「I want to learn how to make tea. Could you introduce me to a good teacher?」
この漢字の書き方が分からないんですが、教えていただけませんか。　「I don't know how to write this Chinese character. Could you teach me?」
日本語で作文を書いたんですが、ちょっと見ていただけませんか。　「I've written an essay in Japanese. Could you take a look at it for me?」
今度土曜日に家でパーティーをするんですが、手伝いに来ていただけませんか。　「I'm holding a party at my house this Saturday. Could you come help me?」
新しいモールへ行きたいんですが、いっしょに行っていただけませんか。　「I want to go to the new mall. Would you come together with me?」

文型三：　 VERB《た形》　らいいですか　「What/When/Where/Which/How/Who shall I...?」

Note:

• This is used when the speaker asks the listener for some advice or instruction about what to do.

例：
何処で日本語本を買ったらいいですか。　「Where should I buy Japanese books?」
日本へ行きたいんですが、どうしたらいいですか。　「I want to go to Japan. What should I do?」
電話番号が分からないんですが、どうやって調べたらいいですか。　「I don't know a telephone number. How should I inquire about it?」
北海道のレストランへ行きたいんですが、どのバスに乗ったらいいですか。　「I want to go to this restaurant at Hokkaido. Which bus should I take?」
辞書を買いたいんですが、何を買ったらいいですか。　「I want to buy a dictionary. What should I buy?」
