Lesson 63 | POTENTIAL FORM

文型一：　NOUN　が　VERB《可能形》　(See Lesson 41)

Notes:

• You can use this instead of NOUNができます or VERB《辞書形》ことができます.
• VERB《可能形》 can be used to express a person's ability to do something and to express the ability of an action in a certain situation. 

例：
私は日本語が話せます。　「I can speak Japanese.」
漢字が幾つ（いくつ）書けますか。　「How many Kanji can you write?」
車が運転できますか。　「Can you drive?」
シュミットさんは五十メートルぐらい泳げます。　「Mr. Schmidt can swim 50 meters.」
父は刺身が食べられません。　「My dad can't eat sashimi.」

文型二：　見られます　VS　見えます／聞けます　VS　聞こえます

Notes:

• 見られます and 聞けます indicates one's intention of seeing or listening can be realized.
• 見えます indicates that a certain object comes into one's sight.
• 聞こえます indicates that a sound reaches one's ears independent of one's will.

例：

映画館で木村拓哉の新しい映画が見られます。　「You can watch Kimura Takuya's new movie in the movie theater.」

音楽堂（おんがくどう／concert hall）で有名歌手の歌が聞けます。　「You can listen to the songs of famous singers in the concert hall.」

この所でいろいろな歌が聞けます。　「You can listen to different songs in this place.」

私の部屋で車の騒音が聞こえます。　「The traffic noise can be heard in my room.」
私の家からLRTが見えます。　「The LRT can be seen from my house.」
