Lesson 36 | どの VS どれ

Both どの and どれ are used if one is presented with three or more choices. Unlike どれ which is discussed in Lesson 16, どの is always followed by a noun.

Note that you always answer どの with このNOUN, そのNOUN, and あのNOUN.

例：

あなたのお兄さんはどの人ですか。　「Which one is your brother?」

○　あの背が高くて、髪が短いです。　「That man who is tall and has short hair is.」

どのテレビがいいですか。　「Which television is good?」

○　あのテレビです。　「That television is.」

どの傘が好きですか。　「Which umbrella do you like?」

○　その傘です。　「That umbrella.」

山田さん：私はそのビールに住んでいます。　「I live in that building.」

中川さん：どのビールですか。　「Which building?」

山田さん：そのビールです。　「That building.」

山川さん：あの絵は私のです。　「That painting is mine.」

田中さん：どの絵ですか。　「Which painting?」

山川さん：あの絵です。　「That painting.」
