Lesson 52 | Use of で

文型一：　PLACE　で　EVENT　が　あります。　「EVENT will be held/take place in PLACE.」

例：
去年ジェイ・チョウは香港でコンサートがありました。　「Last year, Jay Chou held a concert in Hong Kong.」
今週の土曜日にクァーリノー・グランスタンドでマラソン（marathon）があります。　「A marathon will take place in Quirino Grandstand this Saturday.」
先月日本で地震がありました。　「Last month, an earthquake took place in Japan.」
マニラでお祭りがたくさんあります。　「A lot of festivals are held in Manila.」
去年友達の家でパーティーがありました。　「Last year, a party was held in my friend's house.」

文型二：　OCCASION　で　VERB　「VERB take place at the OCCASION」

Note:

• In 『PLACE で VERB』, で marks the place where the action is done. In the same manner, で can also be used to mark an occasion or even where an action takes place.

例：
パーティーで歌っていましたか。　「Did you sing at the party?」
会議で何か意見と言いましたか。　「Did you say something at the meeting?」
ショウ・ルオはコンサートで踊りました。　「Show Luo danced at the concert.」
私たちはクラスで先生の説明を聞きました。　「We listened to the teacher's explanation during class.」
マラソンで走ります。　「I will run in the marathon.」
