Lesson 32 | Combining noun and adjective sentences

文型一：　SENTENCE1.　そして SENTENCE2.

例：
ジェイ・チョウは三十一歳です。そして台湾人です。　「Jay Chou is 31 years old. And he's Taiwanese.」
香港は食べ物が安いです。そしておいしいです。　「The food in Hong Kong is inexpensive. And it's delicious.」
ショウ・ルオはハンサムです。そして面白いです。　「Show Luo is handsome. And he's funny.」
私の大学は大きいです。そして有名です。　「My university is big. And it is famous.」
山田さんは独身です。そして桜大学の先生です。　「Mr. Yamada is single. And he's a teacher of Sakura University.」

文型二：　NOUN　は　｛NOUN／なADJECTIVE　で｝、｛NOUN／なADJECTIVE｝　です。
文型三：　NOUN　は　いADJECTIVE　くて、いADJECTIVE　です。

Notes:

• To connect sentences with いADJECTIVES, you have to change the いADJECTIVE to its adverbial form by removing い and replacing it with a く. For example, おいしい → おいしく.
• You can combine an いADJECTIVE sentence with a なADJECTIVE sentence.

例：
ジェイ・チョウは三十一歳で、台湾人です。　「Jay Chou is 31 years old and a Taiwanese.」
香港は食べ物が安くて、おいしいです。　「The food in Hong Kong is inexpensive and delicious.」
ショウ・ルオはハンサムで、面白いです。　「Show Luo is handsome and funny.」
私の大学は大きくて、有名です。　「My university is big and famous.」
山田さんは独身で、桜大学の先生です。　「Mr. Yamada is single and a teacher of Sakura University.」

文型四：　NOUN　は　NOUN/なADJECTIVE　で、NOUN　は　NOUN/なADJECTIVE　です。
文型五：　NOUN　は　いADJECTIVE　くて、NOUN　は　いADJECTIVE　です。

例：
山田さんは先生で、山川さんは会社員です。　「Mr. Yamada is a teacher and Mr. Yamakawa is a company employee.」
中国は大きくて、フィリピンは小さいです。　「China is big and Philippines is small.」
図書館はしずかで、モールは賑やか（にぎやか）です。　「The library is quiet and the mall is bustling.」
みかんはオレンジで、苹果は赤いです。　「Mandarin orange is orange and apple is red.」
ここは狭くて、あそこは広いです。　「It's confined here and it's spacious there.」

文型六：　SENTENCE1　が、SENTENCE2.

Note:

• 文型一 to 文型五 should never be used to combine two contradictory notions. For sentences with contradictory notions, use 文型六.

例：
ジェイ・チョウは多才（たさい／talented）ですが、ダンスが上手ではありません。　「Jay Chou is talented, but not good at dancing.」
日本は小さいですが、賑やかです。　「Japan is small, but bustling.」
アイフォンは便利ですが、高いです。　「iPhone is handy, but expensive.」
あの人はきれいですが、悪いです。　「That person is pretty, but evil.」
私の友達は背が低い（せがひくい）ですが、親切です。　「My friend is short, but kind.」
