Lesson 18 | Why? Because...

To ask someone for a reason, use どうして.

質問（しつもん）：
一　どうして今日はどこも行きませんか。　「Why are you not going out today?」
二　今　どうしてお金がありませんか。　「Why don't you have money now?」
三　どうして日本語を習いますか。　「Why are you learning Japanese?」
四　どうして友達と会いますか。　「Why are you meeting your friend?」
五　どうしてコンピューターが好きですか。　「Why do you like computers?」

When you're engaging in a conversation and you want to ask the reason for what the other person just said, you can use　どうしてですか.

例：
リーさん：　先週はとても忙しかったです。　「I was very busy last week.」
キムーさん：　どうしてですか。　「Why?」
リーさん：　仕事がたくさんありましたから。　「Because I had a lot of work.」

As you can see in the sample conversation, you place から at the end of the sentence when you answer a どうして question.

質問の答え（こたえ）：
一　疲れましたから。　「Because I'm tired.」
二　物をたくさん買いましたから。　「Because I bought a lot of things.」
三　アニメを見ることが好きですから。　「Because I like to watch anime.」
四　いっしょに映画を見ますから。　「Because we're going to watch a movie together.」
五　コンピューターはとても便利ですから。　「Because computers are convenient.」
